My speaker is sounding bad as well. It seems to be dirt in the speaker slot in the back. Try blowing that out with canned air. I also think it can get small bits of metal in there attracted by the magnet in the speaker.
I read that the phone can get a pressure difference that will cause the speaker to not work. Opening the charging port will fix that. I think only someone who charged using wireless would have this problem.
